Zhang Lijun, Chairman of China APEC Development Council, accepted an interview with Phoenix Satellite TV on the situation of Chinese enterprises’ involvement in the APEC process at Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Center this afternoon.
When it came to the question about whether Chinese enterprises’ enthusiasm in the involvement of APEC getting higher and higher or not in the past two decades, Mr. Zhang pointed out that he had participated in APEC for 10 years and witnessed Chinese business sector’s active role in promoting and achieving the Bogor Goals. He said that there were three main measures for enterprises to participate in APEC: Firstly, with respect to accelerate business facilitation measures, APEC Business Travel Card holders in China increased rapidly and the APEC Business Travel Card was welcomed by the entrepreneurs for its convenience. Secondly, with the implementation of business facilitation measures, we’ve submitted a proposal of establishing a database for APEC Business Travel Card holders in China first and then extended to 21 member economies in order to provide value-added services through APEC platform. Thirdly, we will organize the first APEC Economic and Trade Development Forum for Enterprises in China to create a platform for enterprises to actively participate in APEC in order to protect the enterprises’ enthusiasm in participating APEC and to show China’s active role in the APEC process.
ABTC is the abbreviation of “APEC Business Travel Card”, which is designed to facilitate the business personnel exchanges within APEC member economies. China announced its membership in APEC Business Travel Card Scheme in December 2001, and in February 2002 signed the exchange of notes to join the scheme. President Hu Jintao announced in the APEC Economic Leaders Meeting in Thailand in October 2003 that China would formally implement the APEC Business Travel Card Scheme in November 2003.
APEC CEO Summit 2009 concluded today, and the theme “Rebuilding the World Economy: Crisis and Opportunity” will have far-reaching impact.
