APEC Singapore 2009 Leaders’ Attire (Female version)

As part of APEC’s tradition, Singapore will present the APEC Leaders with the customary Leaders’ Attire when they arrive in Singapore for the APEC Leaders Week in November.

The APEC Singapore 2009 Leaders’ Attire is created by Singaporean Wykidd Song and taken from the inspiration of the Peranakan culture, which reflects Singapore's identity as a multi-racial and multi-cultural society.

The dress has a lotus design with 21 petals, which represent the 21 APEC economies. The design maintains the traditional style of craftsmanship and takes on a modern interpretation of the detailing found in the Peranakan culture's artifacts and architecture.

The color of the dress takes reference from the official colors of the APEC Singapore 2009 logo. Male leaders of APEC economies will be choosing from three colors, namely blue, red or green. Female leaders will be presented with the red attire, with a lot more elaborate embroidery and lacing details.

Linen and silk will be used for the male and female leaders respectively. The selected fabrics are made of natural fibres that are light and breathable and suitable for Singapore’s climate.

The Leaders’ Attire will also come with accessories, which reflect the design and the official colours of the APEC Singapore 2009 logo. Male leaders will be presented with a set of round-shaped cufflinks made of sterling silver featuring either blue topaz, red rhodolite or green peridot precious gem, while female leaders will be presented with a brooch made of sterling silver and features a red rhodolite precious gem.

Leaders of the 21 APEC member economies will be donning the Leaders’ Attire during the group photo-taking session on 14 November 2009. The session will take place at the Esplanade – the official venue for the Singapore Evening. The Leaders will be wearing the Attire throughout the Singapore Evening.
