On the eve of ABAC third meeting for 2009, ABAC Vietnam Hoang Van Phong held a business lucheon and delivered a welcome speech at Furama Resort on August 24.

ABAC Chair Mr. Teng Theng Dar and Ms Chong Siak Ching,Chair of the APEC CEO Summit 2009 Organising Committee introduced ABAC working groups and the preparations of APEC CEO Summit respectively. Among this, one should be mentioned that the form of APEC CEO Summit for 2009 will be different from the past in order to facilitate more effective communication between representatives of business communities, which is the positive expression of playing the full role of the APEC platform from a pragmatic point of view. We are looking forward to seeing this change that would bring a new breath for APEC reform.

As the United States will chair the APEC process in 2011, Ms. Jocelyn Chan, Vice Chairman of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce delivered the annual report of Asia-Pacific Council of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The main topic was about what the U.S. government needs to focus on in the Asia-Pacific region, which was a preheating for APEC meetings in 2011.

During the luncheon, Secretary-General of China APEC Development Council Secretary-General Ms. Sun Ying exchanged views on strengthening cooperation and exchange between enterprises with ABAC Chair Mr. Teng Theng Dar, and Mr.Teng gave a positive response and support for it. He appointed his assistant Mr. Martin Yuoon to negotiate with the Council about the specific arrangements. In addition, APEC Secretariat Program Director Ms. Tran Bao Ngoc was glad to assist the Council when she knew the Council’s willingness to establish relationships with allied institutions among APEC member economies, and she said that she would let the 21 APEC member economies know the intention of the Council by e-mail as soon as possible. This will play a great role of APEC secretariat and jointly promote the exchanges and cooperation between the business community as well.
